This past Sunday as we wrapped up our 2017 Missions Week we considered Acts 11:19-30. There we read of the church at Antioch and how God was at work among them adding to the church and increasing their heart for the gospel. We saw how they, with great unity of heart and mind, responded to the needs of other believers in Jerusalem. Our application from that passage was to see that when we come to know the grace of God in Jesus Christ, we become gracious givers in response to that grace.
Sacrificial giving is the mark of a gracious giver. What we are asking the church family here at Houston Lake to do is to prayerfully pick some tangible way to give sacrificially toward missions– to the local and global proclamation of the gospel! What would such sacrificial giving look like? Why not pick something you could give up- once a month or once a week- and give that toward missions. Forgo one meal out a month or forgo eating out lunch once a week and take what you would have spent and give it toward missions.
What will this do? We will increase our overall giving toward missions here at HLPC. This might allow us to add an additional missionary or even give more to the missionaries we currently support. This is in addition our current tithes and offerings. It’s a way to get more passionate about God’s mission in the world.
There are several ways to give. You can always place a check in the offering plate each Sunday. You can also take advantage of online giving. You can use the link HERE. You can utilize giving through text by texting your gift to 478.246.7001. Both online giving and text giving allow you to designate your gift specifically towards missions. If you are using a check, simply write “missions” on the memo line.
Let’s see what God does as we “up our missions game” so to speak. I think God will do great things in and through HLPC!
