We call this week “Holy Week.” It is the week to remember and reflect on the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry. We use this week to walk through Jesus’ hours of suffering and eventual death but then turn our thoughts to the joy of the resurrection. I hope you plan to come to both of these special services we have planned at HLPC and you are encouraged to bring your friends and family.
- Maundy Thursday– We will gather this Thursday at 7PM. The name “Maundy Thursday” comes from the Latin mandatum novum, referring to the “new commandment” Jesus taught his disciples (John 13:34). In other words, this is “new commandment Thursday.” This service will feature multiple Scripture readings, a variety of special music to aid reflection, a brief message, and the Lord’s Supper. The cross will be draped in black and we will leave the service in silence, reflecting on the price paid for our redemption. Childcare is available for children 3 and under.
- Easter Sunday Worship– This is our day of celebration and the mood will be remarkably different from Thursday night! Instead of our usual School of Discipleship, we will hold our annual Easter Breakfast at 9:15AM along with an Easter Egg Hunt (weather permitting) for kids 10 and under- plastic eggs with hard candy are still welcome. Then we will gather in the sanctuary at 10:30AM to rejoice in Jesus’ victory over sin and death! The cross will be draped in white to reflect the joy of the day. We will consider “Resurrection Reactions” from Acts 17.
Please don’t miss these events to maximize your reflection on and celebration of the life, death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ! Again, please invite family and friends to join us. Last but certainly not least, please be praying for these services that the gospel will be clearly and powerfully proclaimed and that God is glorified!
