“How Was Your Week?”

Dear HLPC family,

“How was your week?”  Like you, I get asked that regularly.  Like you, I most often give what could be labelled as an automated response.  “It was good.”  That may or may not be true.

Some weeks, some days, are much better than others. This has been a hard week for a lot of reasons for me and several others in our church family.  You’ve seen the multiple email church requests for prayer.  Just this morning I received word that an aunt of mine was received into God’s presence after a battle with Alzheimer’s.  Lord willing, I’ll be at her funeral this Saturday in Alabama.

This is life in a fallen world.  It’s not just our personal struggles—and they’re bad enough—events in our country and around the world are distressing and burdensome too.  Let’s not succumb to cynicism or fear. Let’s cry out to the Lord and remember the numerous admonitions in Scripture to “fear not” (see Psalm 46:1-3).    Let’s remember the words of Scripture that we be anxious for nothing but instead channel our worries into prayer and find God’s peace (Philippians 4:6-7).

I’m writing this Pastor’s Pen as much for me as for you. It’s been one of those weeks.

Your Pastor,

Paul
