Miscellaneous

I have a few miscellaneous things to write about in this week’s Pastor’s Pen.   So here goes…

  • My family and I enjoyed a great time in Chattanooga this past weekend. My oldest son, Andrew, proposed to his girlfriend Christina Schuman and she said, “Yes!” We are looking forward to their wedding June 18th in Chattanooga.   We, along with Christina’s parents and my parents were a part of the surprise birthday party she thought she was throwing Andrew that he hijacked and turned into an engagement party. I must say I was quite proud of his cunning and craftiness.   He’s a chip of the ole block.
  • I’m thrilled with the great start we’ve had for Kid’s Quest Catechism Club at HLPC MidWeek on Wednesday nights. Much thanks to Jennie Scoggins and to her great team of volunteers. I think our kids are enjoying it and benefitting from the study of God’s truth. Please join us at MidWeek for supper followed by something for all ages.
  • We asked the church to pray for the Elder’s Planning Retreat that took place in August. We are still refining our goals for 2016 under the major headings of “Pray, Serve, and Reach.” We want to present in January some tangible steps we hope to take to pursue those goals. We are already promoting prayer in new ways as a congregation. Many of you are submitting prayer requests through the new attendance cards and we are praying for those needs.
  • Have you marked your calendars for the annual HLPC Fall Picnic on November 7th? I look forward to the chili cookoff and “crusted dessert” competition. Y’all come and please compete!
  • Lastly, I trust you are benefitting from our weekly participation of the Lord’s Supper. Why did we make this change? You can read the statement by the Elders explaining the move HERE.
