A few thoughts…

Dear HLPC family,

3 things on my mind this morning:

  1. It has been a disturbing time in our nation, I think most will agree.  The most recent event that has discouraged us was the murder of Charlie Kirk.  Charlie Kirk left behind a wife and two small children.  He consistently gave clear testimony of his faith in Jesus Christ and called others to faith.  This act of political violence against one who clearly affirmed his faith is a stark and sobering reminder of life in a fallen world.  We need to continue to pray for the Lord to restrain evil in our culture and for Him to give us grace and wisdom to be effective salt and light in our culture.  We need to pray not only for our nation but for the family of Charlie Kirk in this tragic loss.
  • I just received the report of Ligonier Ministries that gives the results of their 2025 State of Theology survey.  Once again, it has very sobering data.  Remember, an evangelical is a person who allegedly would say they believe in the fundamental truths of the gospel- one could say a Bible believing Christian.

The State of Theology survey gave some results that are eye opening:

  • 54% of American evangelicals agreed that “Everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature.”
  • 53% think that “The Holy Spirit is a force but is not a personal being.”
  • 47% believe “God accepts the worship of all religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.”

I think the motto of Reformed Theological Seminary is one that HLPC needs to affirm as well: “A mind for truth and a heart for God.”  We want to stay strong in teaching God’s authoritative word in all its fullness and also pray that such truth grips our hearts and shapes our affections.

  • I hope you’ll be at our After Worship Opportunity for Lunch (AWOL) this Sunday.  Main dish and dessert will be provided so just bring sides.  In addition to this after worship potluck, we will spend about 15 minutes going over our vision and commitments for HLPC.  It’s always good for us to get a refresher!

Your Pastor,

Paul
