Greetings from Twin Lakes
This week I’m attending a conference for pastors held at Twin Lakes Conference Center which is just south of Jackson, MS. Kevin Deyoung is the main speaker. These few days provide a great opportunity for fellowship and encouragement with fellow pastors, most of whom are in the PCA. This gathering is called Twin Lakes Fellowship and the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson graciously funds this opportunity.
Twin Lakes holds special memories for Connie and me. Between my second and third year of seminary at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, we both served on staff here for the summer. Connie worked in the kitchen and I was the summer assistant director. We had a great summer calling this place home and made some good friends on the staff- a few of whom are still serving here.
As I write this, I’m sitting on the porch of the dining hall where I used to go in the mornings to read my Bible and drink coffee. It’s given me time to reminisce with gratitude. While our seminary years were a stretch financially this was a unique blessing. God not only met our needs but gave us great joy in allowing us to be here. So often it takes time and maturity to look back and see God’s provision and gain perspective. I know there were many moments of discontentment in those days while in reality we never lacked for our needs.
Lord willing, I’ll be coming back Thursday. I’d be grateful if you’d pray that my time here serves to recharge my batteries, so to speak, for more effective work as a pastor. By God’s grace, I want to be an encouragement to others who are here as well.
